Top Tips On Writing A Research Paper
I don’t know how many bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral theses I have managed to revise so far. Many, very many. I have worked on the ones where all I had to do was add a missing full stop at the end of a footnote and a couple of commas.
I have corrected the ones in which not a single sentence has survived without my intervention.
I have also helped foreigners with… hmm… let’s say: not very advanced English. They all have a common denominator. The common denominator is pretentious, pompous language.
Words and phrases with which the authors try to demonstrate their competence, and sentences so long that they themselves have long since lost their way. Of course, a scientific paper must be written in formal language.
Research papers have been growing in popularity for years. The public wants to be educated and have extensive knowledge in various fields. They are helped, for example, by easily accessible scientific journals or the Internet.
However, not every article will win over readers. So what does success depend on and how do you go about writing scientific papers? Find out by reading this article.
Writing research papers – How to create one?
All students have this question in their heads “I couldn`t make it, I absolutely need someone to write my research paper” I want to ask you to make a deep breath and calm down, everything will be fine!
Yes, writing a scientific paper is not one of the easiest tasks and undoubtedly, you need to demonstrate a great deal of knowledge of the topic you are describing, but you`ll make it perfectly!
It requires reading other publications in the area. In addition to the richness of the content, it should be written in such a way that it is easy for readers to assimilate!
In the case of scientific articles, we often use the “IMRAD” structure. The name is formed from the first letters of the words:
- Introduction;
- Methods and Materials;
- Results;
- And (and);
- Discussion;
Each component has a specific function in the text.
What does it mean?
The introduction is primarily intended to introduce the reader to the topic and provide background information and context. It is also useful to include information about why we created the paper and what questions it answers.
The methodology should provide information on how the results were obtained. It should therefore also include the data necessary to create the paper and characterize the research group. The methods should be described in such detail that the study can be repeated by others in the future.
The next section describes the results of the work obtained. Only new knowledge and facts are presented and the most important points are highlighted. This is usually the shortest part of the article. The information contained therein is developed in later stages.
The last part, the discussion, is probably the richest part of the whole paper. It is here that any conclusions, connections, and correlations are included. The importance of the research and its impact on the world is described. You can also present their weaknesses and point out unexplored areas.
How do you write a research paper to appeal to readers?
At the outset, care should be taken to provide an appropriate title. This will enable an interested group of readers to find the article in a jumble of other content.
In addition to providing information about the subject of the research paper, a good title should also include a key phrase. This will improve the indexing process and allow the article to rank higher in search results. As a result, more people are likely to come across it.
Secondly, clarify scientific issues. In the age of the internet, it is unclear into whose hands a published text will end up. It can be either a layman in a particular field or someone with a great deal of experience.
Explaining complex terms certainly won’t do any harm, and who knows, it could be very helpful. A clearly formulated message will ensure that users will enjoy reading the text.
It is also worth taking care to ensure that the form is clear. Clearly separate the individual parts of the “IMRAD” structure already described. A brief summary can also be included at the end.
This should only describe the study in general terms, and present the result and the most important conclusions. This will give the impression of a bracket, closing the whole article.
Summary
Writing a good research paper requires knowledge and good preparation. However, technical issues are also important. Above all, attention to form and language influences how readers will perceive the text.
Therefore, when writing scientific papers, it is worth paying attention to these elements.
